Brothers on the Slide
This is such a gorgeous song! It reminds me of 1995 and living in a rented loft conversion in NW6, totally broke after uni, working in my first job in the city at Warburgs and partying, and wanting to party more! Drinking this awful wine called Yantra Valley and renting foreign films from the video shop!
The guy I rented the loft from, looking back, was a real entrepreneur. Not only was he in a pioneer in the field of stock lending, he had several vintage Citroens that he used to rent out for weddings was building a business, in the pre-strictly era teaching Ceroc. Mike Ellard . The whole thing worked well though and via me he found a least 4 tenants for the other downstairs rooms in the house that I can recall. One of whom I would love to get back in touch with, Zahra, she was a graduate of Central st Martins and a jewelery designer at Mikimoto pearls. There was a great curry house at the end of the road called Curry Nights shortly after I bought a flat and moved to South London , in 1997, two people were shot outside there.
The loft conversion had this funny toilet in a room with a slopping roof so if you were a stand up to pee man you had to stand a long way from the loo or bump your head!
Anyway this song reminds me of walking down to Honest Jons in Ladbroke Grove on a Saturday although I only lived in NW6 for two years it feels in many ways when I look back on that time it feels like it was a lot longer.
